SINCE 1975 · SERVING SKI TOWN USA

Steamboat was a cattle town before it was a ski town, and it still builds like one.

Region · Yampa Valley
State · Colorado
Since · 1975
Steamboat had cowboys before it had chairlifts.

That's not marketing copy. It was a working cattle-ranching community for decades before skiing showed up, and the town still calls itself Ski Town USA with a straight face because the Western identity never got replaced, just layered over. Lincoln Avenue's Craftsman-style storefronts downtown look like a working ranch town because that's what it was, and the luxury housing that's followed the money since Dakota Ridge, Catamount, the private ranch enclave at Marabou. Leans hard into exposed timber, stone, and reclaimed wood rather than the alpine-village look you'd find in Vail.

That's the difference that matters for furniture. A Bavarian-style condo sofa doesn't belong in a Marabou ranch house any more than a rodeo saddle belongs in a Cherry Creek condo. Steamboat wants leather that looks like it's earned a little wear, not furniture that looks staged.

Why retail furniture reads wrong in Steamboat.

The ranch-style aesthetic that dominates Dakota Ridge and Catamount calls for scale and materials that most retail lines don't carry. Heavier leather, darker walnut, proportions built for great rooms with twenty-foot timber trusses rather than a suburban floor plan. Steamboat's elevation and dry winters are also harder on furniture than people expect; homes here run wood stoves and forced air for months at a stretch, and lower-grade leather and veneer crack under that kind of dryness faster than in a milder climate. We build with the same spring construction and dried hardwood frames we'd put into any Colorado estate, sized and finished to hold up to a Yampa Valley winter instead of just a showroom floor.

Steamboat Springs in numbers.

The Winter Carnival is 113 years old this year. The oldest continuous winter carnival west of the Mississippi. And there's still a night skiers ride down Howelsen Hill holding lit torches, which tells you everything about how this town holds onto its own traditions. If a Dakota Ridge house is still waiting on the piece that anchors the room, next winter is the deadline, not this one. (818) 264-6340.
