SINCE 1975 · BUILT FOR THE BLUE RIVER CORRIDOR

Silverthorne used to be the gateway town. Now it's a destination on its own.

Region · Summit County
State · Colorado
Since · 1975
Silverthorne spent years known mostly as the I-70 outlet-mall town. Easy highway access, a place to grab a deal on the way to Breckenridge.

That reputation is dated now. Summit Sky Ranch, a 400-acre master-planned community, has pushed the top end of Silverthorne's market into genuine luxury territory, and Ruby Ranch's gated equestrian enclave of 54 properties along the Blue River has quietly been one of the more exclusive addresses in the county for years.

Unlike Breckenridge, Silverthorne doesn't have a historic Victorian downtown to build an identity around. Its whole sense of place comes from the Blue River corridor and the highway access that made it useful in the first place. That's less romantic on paper, but it means the housing stock skews newer and more varied, from rustic log-and-timber luxury to newer gated ranch-style product.

Why Silverthorne buyers are outgrowing retail.

Summit Sky Ranch and Ruby Ranch both run larger, newer-construction floor plans with room proportions closer to what you'd see in Vail than in Silverthorne's older, more modest housing stock. Retail furniture sized for the town's outlet-mall reputation doesn't match what's actually getting built along the Blue River now. The log-and-timber aesthetic that's common here also calls for heavier leather and darker wood tones than a lot of stock furniture lines carry. We build to the newer Silverthorne, not the old one.

Silverthorne Sunday Maker's Market
Details →

The Silverthorne Sunday Maker's Market has a small-town, folding-table charm to it that the outlet mall down the road never quite had, and the Blue River running high behind it in early summer is reason enough to linger. If a Summit Sky Ranch great room still needs its furniture, this is the season. (818) 264-6340.
